Christine Perthen Award

Etching, declared Christine Perthen (1948-2004) before her untimely death, was her favourite medium. Perthen taught in Berlin at the art college in Weissensee. With her passionate teaching she influenced generations of students, offering them a grounding in the art of this printing technique.

The Berlinische Galerie houses her artistic and written estates, which are managed and cared for by a foundation, the Christine-Perthen-Stiftung. Reflecting the wishes of the artist, its investment income is used to fund an art award for etching. The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros and is awarded every five years.
