Woodcuts 1947 – 2006

Carl–Heinz Kliemann donates a rare portfolio of seven color woodcuts, dating from 1947 and 1948, to the Berlinische Galerie. For this reason we are showing the masterpieces of Kliemanns’ woodcuts, who was born in 1024 in Berlin, at the Eberhard Roters Hall.

For several decades the artist concentrated on landscapes, a topic that he varied and reinterpreted again and again. His most important sources of inspiration were Berlin and Italy. It is the balancing act between abstraction and reality that makes his works so appealing.
